New Bridges is a private children’s mental health clinic, located in central Toronto (Yonge and Davisville area). We are dedicated to improving the daily lives and functioning of children and adolescents (ages 6-18). Our mission is to provide children with every opportunity to be successful through early identification and intervention.

Psychoeducational Assessment

A psychoeducational assessment involves a comprehensive assessment of cognitive and academic functioning, as well as an evaluation of various information processing skills essential in learning (e.g., short-term and working memory, oral language skills, phonological processing, executive functioning skills).

The objectives of a psychoeducational assessment are multiple and include:

Identification and diagnosis of:

  • Learning Disabilities (e.g., reading and writing disabilities, Nonverbal Learning Disability)
  • Giftedness
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other related conditions

Comprehensive and practical recommendations

  • For school and home, including classroom strategies and accommodations tailored to the child’s specific learning needs and profile of strengths and weaknesses.
  • Our assessment reports and recommendations are used to assist in the development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) at schools

Gifted Assessment

Evaluation of intellectual abilities using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-5th Edition (WISC-IV) as well as administration of The Gifted Rating Scales, as recommended by many public school boards and private schools in Ontario.

We have considerable experience in gifted assessment and identification. It is important that gifted children are effectively stimulated at school and receive an enriched education.

Social-emotional Assessment:

A social-emotional assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation of various social-emotional difficulties that a child may experience.  These difficulties include both internalizing (e.g., anxiety, depression) and externalizing conditions (e.g., attention and behavioural issues).

The objectives of a social-emotional assessment include:

Identification and diagnosis of:

  • Anxiety Disorders (e.g., Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Specific Phobias, Social Anxiety, Selective Mutism)
  • Depressive Disorders (e.g., Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymia)

The generation of specific treatment recommendations

(E.g., therapeutic approaches) as well as practical strategies for school and home.
